The Return
of Blink
By Jaguarita
Sabertooth
held the girl he'd raised like his own close when the news of the
bombings reached them. His eyes locked on the M'Kran crystal.
"Time ta go, pup." He growled softly.
"Not with out you, Mr. Creed."
"Who gave ya the choice?" Sabertooth hit her just hard
enough to stun her. He craddled Blink against his chest for a
heart beat. Then he hurled her hard and true into the heart of
the M'Kran crystal.
Then the world exploded in atomic fire.
Clarice Fergeson fell. Hard.
Has she tumbled head over heels, green grass and blue sky flashed
by, before the world went dark. Chamber found her there that
night. He bundled his jacket around her and carried her to the
infermary.
{Banshee, Miss Frost. We've got a guest.} Chamber called
psionicly. {I think she's hurt.}
Banshee ran in and got a good look at the girl. "Clarice?!?"
Blink moaned and slowly opened her eyes. "Where...Chamber?
Banshee? How....?"
She blacked out again.
Jubilee was the only one in the room when Blink came around again.
"Yer Blink, right?" asked the former mallrat.
"That's a dumb question, Lee." Blink sat up and looked
around for her quiver.
"Blink died."
"So did Banshee and Chamber." Blink's eyes narrowed at
the other girl. "Do you know a man called Bishop?"
"Yeah, he said I was the last of the X-men. How'd you know
about him?" Jubilee sat down on the bed.
"I was with Magneto and the X-men when we rescued him from a
squad of Infinals. He told us that our world, our history, was
wrong. You and the other X-ternals were sent to steal the M'Kran
Crystal. I guess Bishop really did fix history."
Jubilee nodded, "We got that story from Bish and Nate Grey.
So how'd you get here?"
"Sabertooth...threw me into the Crystal, before the bombs...."
Blink shuddered.
"Nevermind, you can tell us when you're ready." Jubilee
grabbed her hand. "Come on. Let's get you into something
that doesn't scream Fashion Victem."
Blink found herself dragged into the girls dorm where Jubilee
recruted Husk and M into and impromptue make-over. Blink finally
called a time out when she found an outfit she liked.
Synch and Skin wandered hin looking for Jubilee and Husk to play
"doubles" Fussball. The boys stopped in the door and
stared. Blink stood there with the other girls dressed in a
cropped green T-shirt and flared jeans that fit like a second
skin.
"She's right. That's it." Husk pronounced sollemly
hafter watching the boys' jaws drop.
The four teenage girls exchanged glances then broke into laughter.
Tears filled Blink's eyes has she hugged Husk.
"I'm glad you're all alive," the lavender haired mutant
whispered fiercly.
"We're glad you're alive anywhere." Husk whispered back
holding Blink tightly.
"Cut it out! You're starting to give me a warm fuzzy feeling."
Skin rolled his eyes.
Jubilee hit him across the head with a pillow.
"Pillow fight!" shreeked M cheerfully hurling a pillow
at Husk and Blink.
Husk ducked, but Blink was caught off guard and got it in the
face. She stumbled and fell back onto Jubilee's bed.
"Now you're going to get it, Know-it-all!" Blink
dropped through a multidimensional hole...And came up form an
other behind M, before she'd gone all the way through the first.
She still had the pillow.
"Oops." M giggled has Blink pummled her with her own
pillow.
Skin and Synch joined the attack snatching up pillows from the
floor. Jubilee and Husk looked at each other and dove for the
last pillow. M and Blink waited for a split second before turning
their attention from each other to launcing a joint attack on the
boys. Shreeks and giggles filled the room.
"Excuse me!" Emma Frost, otherwise know has the White
Queen, stood in the doorway with an expression so cold Iceman
would have felt a chill.
The kids froze in a tablue of juvinal behavior.
"If I am not mistaken, you all have a lecture to get to don't
you?" Miss Frost's question was recieved by blank looks.
"Go to class. Now."
The next generation of X-men scrambled passed, carring Blink with
them. One of them made a rude noise has they ran down the hall.
That was probably Jubilee, Miss Frost thought to herself. She
let her mind focus on Blink. This one wouldn't have gotten
caught up by her own power wave. This Blink is...harder somehow.
God, I wish I hadn't failed with Clarice...or my Hellions...
Blink ran into the classroom with the other kids then stopped
cold. Prelate Summers...Cyclops...was leaning on the edge of a
desk in front. But, like Jubilee and the others, something was..different
about him. It was more than the short, neat haircut, jeans and
sweatshirt. It was more than the glasses that suggested that this
Cyclops had both eyes.
"Hi, there. I'm Scott. Come on in." Cyclops smiled at
the girl hessitating in the doorway.
"I know who you are, Summers." Blink said with a
bravado she had gotten good at faking. "I'm just trying to
figure out what you are."
"Wasn't Cyke one of the X-men where you're from?"
Jubilee asked.
"No. I wasn't." Cyclops answered. "You're from the
world Apocolips ruled arn't you?"
"Not at the end he didn't." Blink almost choked on the
words. "We beat him. But it was too late, the bombs were
already going off."
Cyclops nodded. He'd heard has much from Nate Grey and Bishop.
"You don't have to stay if you don't want to."
Blink shrugged and slid into the desk next to M. She slouched
down and watched Cyclops from under her eyelashes. His lecture
was over the practial applications of spatial geometry. Finally
he asked Jubilee for an example.
"When you bounce you optic blast off a mirror to hit a
target behind you." Jubilee shrugged.
"Right. How about a demonstration, M?"
"Must I?" she asked with a sigh.
"You must." Cyclops sent a tennisball careening off the
walls, floor and ceiling, "Catch!"
M's hand shot out and grabbed the ball before it hit Chamber in
what was left of his face. "Very well. But I do not see how
this is practial."
She sent the ball on a convoluted trajectory back to Cyclops.
"Show off." muttered Skin.
"How about you...Blink isn't it?" Cyclops asked.
"Alright. But this doesn't really..." It was too late.
The ball was already in motion. Blink opened two small portals at
the same instant. The ball shot through one and out the other, it's
momentum had never been interrupted. Cyclops was forced to catch
it at the same speed he'd thrown it. The impact stung his palm.
"Like I was saying. This doesn't really apply to me."
"So I see." Cyclops said, he rupped his hand. "I
think you're going to adapt just fine. Class dismissed."
Most of the kids bolted from the room has if this was a normal
highschool. Jubilee stopped at the door and looked back at Blink.
"You coming, Blink?"
"I'll catch up, Jubilee." Blink had her eyes locked on
Cyclops.
Jubilee heassitated for an other second. She'd heard that Bishop
had gone berzerk on Cyclops and Beast after they got back from
Israel...and Nate "X-man" Grey wasn't exactly friendly.
Finally she left, Cyclops was a grown-up and an X-man. He could
take care of himself. When everyone else was gone Blink stood up.
"So who else survived from my world?"
"Nate Grey, DarkBeast, and Holocaust." For some reason
McCoy's survival seemed to embarass Cyclops.
"So the fight's still on," she muttered. "McCoy
and Holocaust. For everyone they killed." For Mr. Creed.
"Are you out of your mind?" Cyclops acked softly.
"Maybe." Blink's eyes flashed and she was gone.
